This virus and the disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan (China) in December 2019. The most common symptoms of COVID19 are fever, fatigue and dry cough. Some patients may experience mild to severe pain, a stuffy or runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and start gradually. Some of the infected people do not develop symptoms and do not feel unwell. Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment. About every 8th infected person falls seriously ill and develops breathing difficulties. Elderly people and people with pre-existing conditions such as high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes are more likely to develop a severe course of the disease. People with fever, cough and breathing difficulties should seek medical treatment. The disease can spread from person to person by small droplets from the nose or mouth. The incubation period for COVID-19 is estimated to be 1-14 days.
